Jenny's Technology Lesson Attempt 2
Sorry that yesterday you were left with an image. I hope that you managed to find the section but, in case you didn't, this is now the work for your lessons but also your homework so you have until next Tuesday to complete the task. I'd like you to try to upload the work straight onto here so that, if we're closed, I can still mark it for you and send feedback. If I have marked work for you, I will also then email feedback. So, the work is as follows:
1. Read the Goddard chapter on technology and take notes. You can skim this to an extent as long as you understand the key points she's making.
2. Read the articles on emoji use and take notes on these whilst remembering that these are written by journalists, not linguists, therefore contain bias and agenda. Can you spot this?
3. Write a topical language issue response, based on the statement, 'Technology is ruining the English Language.' You can argue either way but it must be informed by linguistic knowledge from Goddard and Crystal. Remember, you're writing for a non-specialist audience so should avoid terminology and too many theorists but still need to convey the linguistic message, in an entertaining way.
Good luck and apologies that I'm not with you...and that the lesson yesterday failed to upload.
I will stay in touch.
Best wishes
Jenny
