- Introduction to Memphis Design with particular focus on one of the founding members of the design movement, Nathalie du Pasquier. Q&A to identify key aspects of movement
- Show exemplars of Memphis design and how contemporary designers have been inspired by the movement e.g. Jason Little, Quim Marin, Camille Walala, Lakwena.
- Introduction to Geometric Abstract Typography and Pattern Design with particular focus on contemporary designers Jason Little (and Quim Marin). Q&A to identify key aspects of Geometric Abstract Patterns.
- Introduction to Logo Design
Tasks to be presented across 1 A3 side (left side of a double-page spread)
- Task A - Research and select Jason Little (and Quim Marin) reference images to inspire Geometric Abstract pattern designs. To further develop computer-aided design (CAD) Adobe Illustrator skills.
- Task B - To create a series of geometric abstract inspired designs of the first letter of your name, with emphasis on logo designs.
- Task C - To create a series of geometric abstract inspired background designs, with reference to Jason Little.
- Take B designs will be presented as an overlay on top of Task C designs.
- Exploring colour, shape, balance, rhythm, symmetry, layout and composition.
- Extension task - explore map design, in the style of Jason Little.
