Adding a block to a course
Blocks appear in the right and right columns of a GoL page. Currently all courses have some standard blocks such as My Menu and Administration but a teacher can add other blocks to enhance the page.
To add a block or just look at what is available click the dropdown arrow in Add a Block which is at the bottom of the left column of every course page.
Blocks you might want to investigate:
- The HTML block - this gives you a text box that will appear in a column. You can use it for straight text, graphics, links etc.
- The Comments block - a very quick way of adding comments to a page.
- Remote RSS Feeds - use this block to add feeds from other websites, for example a news website.
Positioning a block on a course page:
- Turn ediiting on and click the edit icon to configure the block, you need to change the On this page settings of the block
- Select the Region to determine whether the block appears on the left or right of the page
- Adjust the Weight to detmine where the block appears in the column - the smaller the number the higher up the page it will appear
