Revision Books for A level Sociology – 2 year
1. Topic based books
a. Hodder revision books
These were the first good books available and are also available in the Library (at least try before you buy!).
They focus on the three papers being assessed. Each has condensed notes and worked questions with guidance at the back.
Social stratification has been neglected as an unprofitable topic for the publishers.
Paper 1: Education (with theory and methods)
Paper 2: Families and Households
Paper 2: Beliefs in Society
Paper 3: Crime and Deviance and Methods in Context
b. Collins Revision Books
These are more recent and are a very similar size and shape to the Hodder. Again condensed notes and worked questions and examples, plus a very useful glossary (not unlike the one in your Webb textbook), and, again, social stratification units are unavailable with AQA questions.
Paper 1: Education with Research Methods
Paper 2: Families and Households
Paper 2: Beliefs in Society
Paper 3: Crime and Deviance with Theory and Methods
2. Books based on AS/A level split
These are a cheaper option in that they mean buying only a single pair of books, but tend to offer only condensed notes
a. Ken Browne - Sociology for AQA Revision Guide
Not available until the end of April – at the time of writing we have yet to see copies (although Ken Browne is always an author with an acute grasp of detail).
Book 1
Book 2
b. Rob Webb and Keith Trobe - Succeed at A level Sociology
Two of the four author team that completed our main textbook. These are likely to be very close to the textbook, although less detailed.
Book1 [AS and A level first year]
Book 2 [A level second year]
3. Single Revision Books
Much less common, when applied to the newer linear syllabus, but likely to be a growing number as modular syllabuses fade into the background
a. Laura Pountney - My Revision Notes: AQA A Level Sociology
A very good set of revision notes for the whole course. Again, neglects Social Stratification for Beliefs in Society.
b. New A-Level Sociology: AQA Year 1 & 2 Complete Revision & Practice [CGP]

None of these books will be of any use at all unless they are used.
