They had backing tracks to the songs which added emphasis to the musical numbers, making them more powerful and bold.
during the storm in the beginning, there was a recording of rain and wind to create the atmosphere that a huge storm was outside wuthering heights.
Wispy, airy sounds, mirroring the wind. Somewhat eerie.
Rain pattering dismally, creating this desolate feel.

The recorded sound of doors locking was played very loudly and prevalently which highlighted the character's (Cathy and Linton) captivity under Heathcliffe's desire for power and control. Furthermore, there seemed to be recorded sound of the door slamming at certain points which further emphasised the notion that they were captives of Heathcliffe.
The atmospheric sounds of weather and wildlife was immersive and gave a rural and sometimes eerie feel to the piece right from when you sat down.
